Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were stopped due to an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, considerable delays are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with many others experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the latest information on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers are still being urged to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the terminal as residual delays are worked through.
